Family business: Little Star Vietnamese Restaurant is a popular place to dine.
Little Star owner Steven Ta says
cooking is in his blood and when he
cooks, he does it from the heart.
‘‘No one can talk to me while I am
cooking. I am so focused on getting
everything balanced – it’s all about
perfect timing, temperature and taste.’’
Little Star offers traditional Vietnamese
cuisine, in a friendly and inviting
atmosphere. Customers can dine in the
fully licensed restaurant or takeaway.
Steven’s heritage says it all. His
grandfather from China was a
respected and talented professional
chef, whose skills were highly sought
after. ‘‘When he came to Vietnam,
many restaurants would ask him for
advice if they had a problem with
anything,’’ says Steven’s sister, Lee Ta,
who is the duty manager at Little Star.
‘‘He taught my father how to cook,
who then passed on his skills to us.’’
The siblings are also part of a family
owned fish sauce-making business that
spans two generations.
Steven prides himself on creating his
own recipes and sauces. ‘‘I like to create
my own style of sauce, so every dish
does not taste the same as all the other
restaurants. I have regular and loyal
customers who love our food and keep
Little Star was an Indian restaurant
before Steven – formerly of Little
Saigon – took over two months ago.
‘‘Steven is so passionate about food,
it’s all he talks about, day and night,’’
says Lee. ‘‘Because I can also cook, I can
tell just by the smell of a dish whether
it is perfectly cooked or not. If it’s not
perfect, I will tell Steven to do it again.’’
The menu consists of an extensive
variety of dishes including lunch, mains
and banquets. The Little Star chefs can
cook and adapt each dish to each
individual’s taste or diet preferences,
whether gluten-free or vegetarian.
While diners love the traditional
favourites such as the chicken and
cashew nut, Lee says the Vietnamese
spicy grilled chicken, chilli garlic prawn,
salt and pepper squid, and chicken
lemongrass with chilli are popular
‘‘Our fresh Vietnamese spring rolls
and Vietnamese salad are also delicious
we only use the freshest produce.’’
