Mark Smith, of
a friendly and
all foot concerns
Experienced podiatrist, Mark Smith, of Riccarton
Clinic, is dedicated to providing a caring and
comprehensive service to Cantabrians -- and he is
here to stay.
While many podiatrists have left Christchurch, Mark
is focused on building long-term relationships with
''People appreciate continuity with their healthcare
-- especially elderly patients, who like to have the
same person looking after them time and time again,''
Originally from the UK, Mark and his wife -- who is
also a podiatrist -- ran their own podiatry business for
many years before immigrating to New Zealand 14
months ago. The couple set up their business,
Solecare Podiatry, which operates within Riccarton
Clinic on Yaldhurst Rd. Offering routine foot care as
well as orthotics, Mark says he prides himself on
providing a thorough and personal service.
Solecare can take care of everything foot-related,
from simple needs such as thickened toenails,
ingrown toenails, corns, calluses, warts and dry skin,
through to complex problems of the foot and ankle.
''Our patients range from teenagers and business
women in their high heels to ladies in their 90s who
can no longer reach down to cut their toenails.''
For sportspeople who may have fallen arches or
knee problems, orthotics can be fabricated on site.
''I can assess your walking and running style, and
give advice on footwear and trainers. I can also
fabricate small devices to relieve pressure off and
between toes, and our turnaround time for orthotics
is very quick.''
Mark says being a part of Riccarton Clinic means he
has access to a large team of professionals.
The modern, purpose-built facility provides an
extensive range of services in addition to podiatry: a
GP practice, physiotherapy, optometry, orthopaedics,
audiology, midwifery, x-ray facilities and a pharmacy.
Plenty of car parking is available at the clinic, which
is close to several passing bus routes and only a short
drive from western suburbs.
For first-time patients of Solecare, the initial
consultation will run for 40 minutes, for the same
price as the standard 20-minute appointments.
Solecare Podiatry is in Riccarton Clinic, 6 Yaldhurst
Rd, Upper Riccarton. Phone 343 3661 for an
appointment between 9am and 5.40pm.
