In all of life's experiences, it is desirable to get off to a good start
and, in marriage, that is no less true.
What better way then to ensure the perfect beginning to married life
than by launching it in style in a fairytale location.
And if a wedding day can be a tense affair for the participants, what
better place to stage it than in an island paradise where stress is not
a regular component in the vocabulary of its population.
That idyllic haven is Rarotonga which, with a circumference of
32km, is the largest in a collection of 15 islands that comprise the
As the grey clouds gather over Christchurch and daily temperatures
slip lower on the household thermometer, images of sandy beaches,
azure water and tropical warmth seem a distant reality.
Yet, in Rarotonga, a person could be basking in 30 degrees, plus or
minus the odd degree.
Glorious weather, you might be saying, is all very well but how
would I go about organising a wedding from so very far away?
That is where Wedded Bliss Rarotonga steps into the picture.
Since its inception in 2004, the company has arranged more than
600 memorable weddings for overseas couples who have been
appreciative of its attention to detail and extensive local knowledge.
The role of company founder and director Andrea Rongokea is to
plan and organise all aspects of the wedding before the participants'
arrival. Originally from New Zealand, Andrea has an extensive
background in hospitality, public relations, travel planning and co-
ordination and has been living in Rarotonga since 2002.
Wedding planner Fiona Pekepo is with the couple from consultation
to wedding day, answering every question, allaying and concerns
and ensuring the island wedding experience will be indelibly etched
in the memory for a lifetime.
Wedded Bliss offers three unique wedding packages, valid until
March 31, 2014, at $7299, $3199 and $1299, tailored to meet the
specific needs of its clients.
Alternatively, a package can be custom-made to suit individual
requirements and preferences. Suggested elements that couples
might want to consider are:
• Photography packages
• DVD/ stop motion DVD
• Flower arrangements
• Hair and makeup styling with trained professionals
• Beauty treatments
• Island string band and other entertainment
• Island dancers and fire dancers
• Wedding cakes
It is becoming increasingly popular for couples to visit Rarotonga
before their wedding to check out the available service providers
the island can offer. There is a consultation fee of $100 which will

Couples need to register three working days
before the wedding to obtain their marriage
licence or, under special circumstances, a licence
waiver can be applied for on the client's behalf
Couples require original birth certificates and
passports, plus divorce decree and death
certificate of spouse if applicable.
Weddings in the Cook Islands are legally binding
and recognised internationally. However, further
document legalisation may be required.
It should be noted that, due to religious
obervances in the Cook Islands, weddings are not
conducted on a Sunday.
A wedding is a special occasion wherever it might be held but,
when the location has a grandeur all of its own, it becomes an
event that will be cherished for a lifetime.
That is why wedding groups are looking beyond
the familiarity of their own surroundings to the
untamed splendour of scenic wonderlands like
Wanaka to showcase the greatest production
of their lives.
Among the venues they are choosing is the
magnificent Lookout Lodge, close to Lake
Wanaka and situated in a spectacular rural
landscape. Its facilities can accommodate
wedding celebrations both large and small.
The grand dining room seats as many as 124 people and seven
guest rooms, including a private room for the bride and groom,
provide accommodation for those wishing to
remain on site.
Lookout Lodge has a professional kitchen for
catering and a festive wedding marquee for
drinks, shade and comfortable seating. It is a
stunning backdrop for the wedding ceremony
and the many shots that will be taken by
professional photographers and guests.

When you call Simon Stewart, the message on his answer phone
may tell you he is probably floating about.
He is not being evasive; as the "captain" of Lake Wanaka Cruises,
which he owns and operates with his wife, Danni, there is every
chance he will be, quite literally, "floating about" on their 52ft power
catamaran, Dual Image.
Saltwater flows through Simon's veins. He has completed
successful trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific voyages and, with more
than 3000 hours of private boating behind him, a coastal skipper's
ticket and a full night rating, you could not be in better hands when
he is at the helm during a power catamaran charter experience on
beautiful Lake Wanaka.
Lake Wanaka Cruises offers year-round power catamaran charter
and scenic cruising on New Zealand's fourth largest lake.
For overnight catamaran
cruising, Dual Image comfortably
accommodates eight people. It
is complete with toilets, showers
and entertainment facilities.
Onboard catering is available or,
alternatively, the craft's barbecue

If you have chosen Wanaka as
your "wedding away" location,
make sure it's "anchors aweigh"
