Hang out: Pierside Cafe
and Bar reflects its
When Tony Brooks starts outlining
the Pierside Cafe and Bar menu, it's
hard not to just shut down the
computer and head east for an urgent
meeting with a plate of steamy garlic-
Tony tells of hearty soul food cooked
really well by talented chefs, and
suggests the Pierside's popularity is
down to the three-sided approach he
has taken to his hospitality business.
There are definitely three prongs it
would be great to approach Pierside
with -- namely a fork to delve into its
rubbed lamb backstrap on a bed of
fresh salad greens.
Setting aside the distraction of
scrumptious food talk, Tony says a
great entertainment and excellent bar
are also behind Pierside's success.
Matching its beach surrounds, the
Pierside is kitted out with hand-carved
wooden tables, surfboards and murals,
creating a laid-back seaside hangout.
Patrons could be excused for calling
in on a daily basis with the list of
specials Tony describes, starting with
$10 lunches every weekday.
Blackboard specials sell out regularly
and last week's swordfish fillets were a
total hit. ''Our Shout'' on Mondays
offers a free beer, wine, or house spirit
with every main, and if you're in for a
little intellectual challenge, stay on to
join locals for quiz night.
Tuesdays, it's $15 steaks and the
option to settle in for a round or two of
Texas Holdem Cash Poker.
There is 20 per cent off all mains on
Wednesday nights and a pool
competition in the bar.
Thursdays, it's rib night. Indulge
in a juicy feast of oven-roasted pork
ribs in an American-style BBQ sauce,
then share your dulcet tones on the
Reggae and dubb bands take to the
stage Friday nights, and old school
rocks on Saturday nights, with bands
like the Atamis, Brothers Grimm and
Black Velvet Band.
And if all you need for entertainment
is cocoa-inspired bliss, you'll be well
satisfied by this highlight on the
dessert menu: Chocolate Lover, a warm,
rich chocolate brownie with kahlua and
chocolate sauce, chocolate ice-cream
and shards of chocolate.
